Berni founded Sterling IP in 2008 as boutique intellectual property practice, specialising in therapeutic assets. She is a European Patent Attorney, a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) with more than 13 years’ experience gained in private practice and in multi-national pharmaceutical companies. Berni also qualified as an Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Mark Attorney in 2005.
Berni has experience in building patent portfolios for protecting pharmaceutical assets, freedom operate analysis and due diligence for investors and those seeking investment. In 2012, Sterling IP was very pleased to see two of their clients receive funding to the tune of $45 million.
Berni has experience in European opposition and appeal hearings and UK proceedings involving revocations of UK patents at the UKIPO.
As a former member of the Joint Examining Board, Berni was responsible for writing and moderating the legal paper for the Advanced UK Chartered Patent Attorney exams from 2007 to 2011.

Andrew is a chartered UK patent attorney. He has a BSc with 1st class honours and a PhD in Human Genetics, both from University College London. His doctoral research was on the study of human genetic polymorphisms and their influence on mRNA expression levels and disease susceptibility. Following his PhD, Andrew undertook postdoctoral research at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he used cell and molecular biology techniques to investigate the regulation of cell morphology and motility.
Prior to joining Sterling IP, Andrew worked for several years in the patent department of one of Singapore’s major intellectual property law firms where he advised clients on the specificities of patent practice and filing strategy in Singapore, Malaysia, India, China and other South East Asian countries. Andrew also drafted and prosecuted a wide range of patent applications, predominantly in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology and medicine and was a key member of a team which provided freedom to operate, validity opinions and patent litigation support to a large multi-national company.

Lana began working in patent formalities at a large London firm in 2007 and joined Sterling IP in October 2011. Lana supports the attorneys with filings at UK Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office, WIPO and with overseas associates. Lana deals with all aspects of the patent application including fee payments, due dates and any formal requirements. Lana holds the CIPA Patent Administrator Certificate.
Natalja joined Sterling in January 2013 as Finance Associate, as well as Events Coordinator. In October 2013, Natalja organised the International Conference on Business and IP Strategy in Shanghai, which was sponsored by Sterling IP.
